The tiny white caterpillars (larvae) of the clothes moth eat holes through fabrics but the adult moths do not feed on fabric. Damaged fabrics often have silken cases or silken threads on their surface. Clothes moth larvae feed on animal products such as wool, feathers, fur, hair, upholstered furniture, animal and fishmeals, milk powders, bristles, dried hair and leather. Larvae will also feed on lint, dust, paper, and materials soiled with oil.
